Welcome to 101
Livestock Market
|
No one can compete
with our mild climate and its positive effect on your cattle. Cool
temperatures and quality feed provide the best conditions for everyone's
cattle.
|
| The
sort alone can add value to your calves, yearlings, and cows. We
continue to sort large bunches on horseback. It is easier, more calming
for the cattle and a lot more efficient. We tend to sort small bunches
on foot and will continue to do that. |
 |
 |
Often times calves weighing 600# sorted into two groups;
650# that brings the same price as 600# steers and that leaves the 2nd
group weighing 550# that often commands $8.00/cwt. up. So the sort can
add value not normally realized in a ranch or video sale. |
Butcher cows sorted properly can really add
value.
1. Cutter cows are in high demand by some
packers.
2. Breaking cows are in demand by different
buyers.
3. Young cows command premiums when sorted off.
4. Feeder cows have and will command premium
prices to the slaughter market.
It's hard to explain how much this sort can add to the value of your
cows over the dressed price at the packers, where one price fits all. |

In line bunk feeders that feed a mixture of chopped
alfalfa and grain hay coupled with clean well water provide the best
possible conditions for livestock care. Chopped hay is by far the best
feed for both calves and yearlings coming straight off the grass. We call
it soft feed . |
| Bunk style feeding is cleaner and lowers waste. Feed
wagons help to get cattle bunk broke. Cattle brought in before sale
day are put on feed and water. Immediately after the sale cattle are
returned to feed and water pens and stay there until shipped out. |
 |
 |
The right size of pens to fit the number of cattle is really
important. To make this happen you need lots of pens and different sizes.
Our 35 years of experience and hands on building has developed a yard that
meets those demands. |
| Other auction facilities utilize city water, where chemicals
are added, decreasing the amount of water cattle will drink. We have over
40,000 gallons of storage for well water on two completely different
systems . This system provides well water for all cattle around the clock. |
 |
 |
If one system fails, the other can take over without
interrupting the supply. A lot of California markets don't have the luxury
of their own water systems. Most ranch cattle are use to well or spring
water and don't take to city water. Well water not only adds weight but
helps in maintaining cattle health from seller to buyer. |
| We receive cattle 7 days a week. Cattle received on the
weekend are immediately unloaded and moved to fresh feed and water pens
until sorted. |
 |
 |
Buyers trucks can be loaded while the sale is going on
without interrupting the sale. While this may not seem all that important,
it gets cattle to their destination faster with less stress and make the
buyers want to come back again and again. |
| Small animals are accepted on Tuesday morning between 7:00
and 9:30.
Small animals are sold at 9:30 am. prior to the cow sale. |
